What is required of the foster parents?

It all depends on how old the animal is that you are fostering.  Puppies may have to be brought in for vaccines. Dogs who have all of their vet work done might not need to come to the shelter. Dogs ready for adoption MUST be brought to the shelter for Saturday adoption days, which are from 11 am to 4 pm, excluding some holiday weekends. Foster parents are not required to stay for the adoption day.

Why do you need foster homes if there are shelters like HTH?

Here at Happy Tales Humane we currently do not have the facilities to house all of the dogs and puppies that we rescue. We depend on loving and responsible foster families to help out. This is also the best environment for the animals to be in to be well adjusted pets.

How long are dogs in foster homes?

Dogs and puppies stay in foster homes until they are adopted. This could be anywhere from one week to six months. It depends on the animal and the situation.

Do adult dogs need fostering, too?

All dogs, whether they are puppies or adults, must be in a foster home.

What about kitten fostering?

With kitten season upon us, kitten fostering will be extremely important. Kitten foster parents may be responsible for one kitten or a litter of kittens. There are times when we also need foster parents for unweened litters as well. This is based on experience and how comfortable the foster parent feels with the situation.

I am interested in helping adult cats. Do you need any fostering in that area?

Happy Tales Humane is proud to announce its Feline FURlough program, aimed at our adult cats. Under this program our adult cats will have an opportunity to enjoy a 30 day vacation in a home. Sad to say, but some of our adult cats have been with us so long that they've forgotten what it is like to live in a house with the same people that love on them every day. They've forgotten that sense of security. With an approved foster application you can give one of our adult cats a well deserved vacation.

Stop by the shelter to meet the cats available for the Feline FURlough program.

Who pays for care when animals are in foster homes?

We do. We provide all food, supplies, and medication at no charge. Though we will provide these supplies to fosters, many like to help offset our costs and buy the supplies themselves. Any donations you make, including the purchase of food, etc. for your foster animals, are 100% tax-deductible.

What if I fall in love with my foster animal(s)?

It’s happened before! If you decide you want to keep an animal you are fostering, you must go through the regular adoption procedure.
