Sonny

I'm the woman who picked up Sonny last week on Tuesday, Jan 4. I promised I'd write and let you know how Sonny is adapting to his new home.

The ride home, even though it was only about 15 minutes, was terrible for Sonny. He evidently got very anxious and had a bout of diarrhea in the carrier before we got home. As a result, I had to remove him from the carrier immediately. (I've cleaned your carrier and will get it back to you ASAP!)

He spent several days under my daughter's bed & pretty much lived in her room. We had food, water & a litter box in there for him & just left him alone, except for looking under the bed twice a day and telling him hello. Every so often our other cat, Mimi, would walk in & look under the bed, wag her tail (She's an American Bobtail) then go on, leaving him to his solitude.

Suddenly last night (Friday 1/7) he came down & made friends with my husband, spending at least 25 minutes rubbing up against my husband and enjoying being petted. It seems he'd grown tired of the solitary existence, and was ready to become a real member of our family!

He now comes down every day when we get up, says hello and gets as much loving as he can from us. He then goes off to explore a new room of the house, but comes back regularly to check in. He's very loving, and loves to be petted and loved on! He'll come into our room & check on us in the middle of the night, say hello, then go on about his business. He did sleep at the foot of my bed for a few minutes one night, but I think he still has too much exploring to do to stay in one spot too long!

He's still a bit skittish of new sounds or people, but he warmed up to my daughter very quickly when she was home last night. I think he really feels safe, and knows this is home now. He and Mimi are still respectful of each other's space, but my husband actually caught them lying on the same patch of rug earlier today, so I think it'll only be a matter of time before they're best friends.

Thank you so much for keeping Sonny for us until it was time for us to bring him to his forever home! He is now a permanent part of our family. He's ours, and will be for the rest of his life!

Thank you for all you do for these lovely animals!
