Paikea’s Medical Fund
This is Paikea, pronounced PIE (like in cutie pie) kee ah. She’s named after the little girl in the movie “The Whale Rider” who succeeded in reaching her potential despite great obstacles.
Paikea’s obstacle is one she was born with: a kink in her spine that limits use of her hind legs.
Now, while she’s a puppy, she’s still able to run and hop with astonishing speed, mainly powered by her front legs, but as she gets bigger, that’s going to be more difficult. With surgery, there’s a possibility that she could have full control of those hind quarters for a long, unrestricted, energetic life. She’s such a smart, happy puppy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs, follows her foster mom around like a furry shadow, and generally brightens everyone’s day.
Let’s give her the chance she deserves.

Another Successful Puppy Adoption

We’d heard of Happy Tales reputation from several friends who had great adoption stories so it was the first place we went. Mindy was one of the first puppies we saw that Saturday, a small Border collie, Terrier mix. We immediately fell in love with her and not wanting to take home the first dog we saw began debating for the next three days if Mindy was the right puppy for us.

Thanks Crockett Elementary Students!
Thanks to Crockett Elementary 5th grade students Megan Derrington, Allie Flinn, McKenna Smith, Carrie Stokes, Talia Thorpe, Kelsey Viola who dreamed up a project to help the shelter. They made jewelry on several occasions after school. Then, they sold the jewelry, collected donations, and sold cookies in order to raise funds for Happy Tales Humane. Also pictured are Lindsay Flinn (sister of Allie) and Diglio Thorpe (brother of Talia).
